Mission Statement of the Friends of Chittenden Public Library
Friends of the Chittenden Library, Inc. is a non-profit 501c(3) organization that was established to support and enhance the Chittenden Public Library’s role in the community through financial assistance for items, services, programs, and special projects not normally covered by the library’s annual operating budget.

Why is there a Friends Group?
The Chittenden Public Library is funded, in part, by town taxes for everyday operating expenses. As with most organizations, operating budges can only do so much. The Friends organization was established as a non-profit fundraising partner for the library, to support and enhance its impact in the community. We are also library “cheerleaders” helping to increase public awareness about all that our small town library has to offer.

What do we do?
Friends of the Chittenden Public Library essentially raise funds to support unbudgeted needs requested by library staff. We have provided financial support for a wide variety of use-focused programs, services, equipment, special projects, and other items that enhance the experience of library patrons.

How do we raise funds?
The Friends host several fundraising events each year, including the silent auction at Chittenden Day, Burger and Brew at Mountain Top Inn, and occasional bake sales at the library. Members help with implementation of all events.

Who can be a member?
Anyone interested in supporting our mission to enhance the role of the library in the community can become a member. There are no dues or fees, just a desire to help and a willingness to work on fundraising projects throughout the year. The Friends also meet every four to six weeks at the library to plan fundraising events and review requests by the library.

How can you help?
Our Chittenden Public Library is more than just a place to read and borrow books. It is a true community resource! The library has regular winter and summer hours several afternoons per week and on Saturday. We encourage you as a town resident to visit the Chittenden Public Library and learn about all it has to offer. You can also consider joining the Friends group or support the work of the Friends through donations and participation in fundraisers.
